ARTURO (Artie) MEZA +

04/20/53-01/02/04

Artie was a very strong person, he loved his kids so much and oh my God, how he loved his Grandkids.  I guess that is something that our family has in common. Those of us that have grandkids, how we love them. Artie spent alot of time with Jarquiz, Anaiah, and Jacob and although, Jose and Alana lived far away, he loved them so much.  He was very proud of his children and he helped them if he could.  I remember how he would go to Superwalmart with Jarquiz on his wheelchair.  The other day, Mom and I were going to Superwalmart and we saw a man on a wheelchair and I started thinking of Artie and Mom remembered how many times she had gone to Superwalmart with Artie on the County Bus. Mom went through a difficult time with Artie during his illness and death. When Artie died, he was surrounded by all his family, we prayed, he prayed and we sang and I know that Jesus came for him and took him home, so that he would not suffer any longer.

One of the last days that our family spent with Artie was on New Year's Eve 2003.  I remember we had good food, I recall that Rosa and Scott brought some spinach dip, which he liked and we listened to Bobby Pulido Music, which was his favorite tejano music. That night we listened to Rigo Tovar music, which he enjoyed as well.  Frank and Carmen started to dance, then Scott and Rosa and Me and Jr.  I will never forget how happy Artie was, he told me he enjoyed watching us dance. That was a memory that I will always cherish in my heart. There are so many memories that I will continue to share, I have had them in my heart and it's time to write them down.  Artie was so blessed that he got to spend a month with his Son Joey, who lived in Las Vegas at the time. After his dad was diagnosed with cancer, Joey decided to move up his vacation because he wanted to check on his dad, that is a sign that God was with him. Joey left for Las Vegas on January 1st and Artie passed on January 2nd,  2004.

Artie would be very proud of his kids, Turi, Joey and Linda and I know he would of been thrilled to have known his other grandkids, Andrew and his new Granddaughter, Ema Mia, that was born in Nov. 3rd  2007.

On November 2nd, 2006, some of the family members celebrated a traditional Mexican Holiday-Day of the Dead-Dia de los Muertos.  This is a day when we invite as our honored guests, our loved ones that have died to come and share a meal with us.  We set a table for our Dad, Jose Meza, our brothers Blue and Artie Meza, and to our Sister Martha Meza Alexander. We cooked some of our loved ones foods that they enjoyed, Carne con Papas with Chile, Refried Beans, Salsa Picante and of course a bowl of Fruit. We sat and ate this delicious food. We enjoyed the afternoon as we got to see the sun set.
