JOSE ANGEL MEZA +

12/25/25-12/04/00

IN LOVING MEMORY OF OUR MY FATHER-JOSE ANGEL MEZA

My father was a unique man, he had a giving heart, that I believe was his greatest character. He worked hard for all his family, all you had to do was look at his hands. My last memory of my Dad was on Saturday, December 2nd,  2000.  Our Organization  The Blue Angel Benefit Fund, was going to be holding a fundraising event at the Downtown Dade City Christmas Cruise-in.  We were going to sell Mexican food to raise funds for the funeral of a Local Dade City man who was killed in a traffic accident.  I remember that we cooked beans, hamburger meat, rice, salsa and Fresh flour Tortillas to sell Wet Burritos.  My Mom and Dad came over to my house to help with the cooking and preparation for the event. I remember that my son Caesar, was riding his Atv bike in our backyard and he would come to the backyard to talk to his grandpa Jose.  He recalls how Dad was reminiscing of his kids when they were little and how he missed them.  He told Caesar of the good days, when his business was good and the Orange Crops in Dade City was at it's best. He told Caesar alot of stories of his youth. I guess it was his goodbye to his grandson. After all the food was done, we went downtown to set up and I remember that some of the other vendors were selling Fruit Cakes, Dad sent my son Manuel to buy one for him, and as we were setting up, he took a chair and sat down and ate half of the fruit cake.  I, of course got on to him for eating half of the cake, he was a diabetic and it was not good for him to do such things. Anyway, I remember that we started selling Mexican Food and we had alot of customers and he was so excited that we were doing so much business.  I guess all the excitement made him get sick, because he started complaining of chest pains, I told Ana to take Dad to the hospital, but Ana said, he had refused to go to the hospital, he told her he was feeling better. Anyway, we did good that night, we raised $350 for the family.  On Sunday, I called Dad to ask how he was doing and he told me Ok, I remember he started coughing and I scolded him for smoking, the doctors had already told him to quit. That was the last time I spoke to him, I have always regretted scolding him. It hurts me that my last words were to scold him and not to tell him how much I loved him. Although, he knew how much I loved him. I miss him so much and at times when I go through downtown at the corner of 7th St. & Pasco Avenue, I can see Dad eating his Fruit Cake and smiling at me. He has been an inspiration in my life!

Love, Aurora
