JOSE MANUEL (Blue) MEZA +

02/09/51-08/05/91

My Brother Blue had a big heart and I loved him so much. I remember the last time I saw him.  He was living in Va. and he came to visit us in October of 1990. He came to see our brother Artie, who had been paralyzed in a traffic accident and he was doing good. We spent alot of time together and I remember we were living in my Dad's Apt.'s on Lock Street.  The day he was leaving to go back to Va, we were in the parking lot of the Apts. and I recall him telling us goodbye and that he would keep in touch.  I remember, I gave his girlfriend a paper with my phone number and address and to call me if they ever needed anything.  I never realized how much that piece of paper would come to haunt me.  Well time passed and he kept in touch with our family.  He would call at least twice a month and fill us in on his life.  One night it was around 11:45pm, the phone rang, Jr. answered it, they were asking him if he knew a Jose Meza, he thought it was my dad, they told him they were calling from Va., we knew it was about Blue, they asked to speak to Aurora Juarez, I answered the phone and I got the news that my Brother Blue has passed away minutes earlier.  I went crazy, I went into shock, I remember Jr, walking next door to Martha's apt. and getting her, I wanted to believe that some how it was a mistake, it could not have been my brother Blue that died, maybe someone had stolen his Id, I told the Doctor. Then, the Doctor asked if I had given his girlfriend a little paper with my name and address and phone number, to call me if they ever needed anything. Well he said, I am holding that little piece of paper, it was then that I realized that it was Blue that had died.  Blue's death was so difficult, I felt as if I was in a nightmare. Arrangements were made to contact my parents who were in Michigan at the time. I could barely function, my strength at that time was no where near what it is today. I miss my brother and it saddened me that he died alone in Va. but I trust that Jesus was there to take him home.

On November 2nd, 2006, some of the family members celebrated a traditional Mexican Holiday-Day of the Dead-Dia de los Muertos.  This is a day when we invite as our honored guests, our loved ones that have died to come and share a meal with us.  We set a table for our Dad, Jose Meza, our brothers Blue and Artie Meza, and to our Sister Martha Meza Alexander. We cooked some of our loved ones foods that they enjoyed, Carne con Papas with Chile, Refried Beans, Salsa Picante and of course a bowl of Fruit. We sat and ate this delicious food. We enjoyed the afternoon as we got to see the sun set.
