Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Grandpa!
On November 2nd, 2006, some of the family members celebrated a traditional Mexican Holiday- Day of the Dead- Dia de los Muertos. This is a day when we invite as our honored guests, our loved ones that have died to come and share a meal with us. We set a table for our Dad, Jose Meza, our brothers Blue and Artie Meza, and to our Sister Martha Meza Alexander. We cooked some of our loved ones foods that they enjoyed, Carne con Papas with Chile, Refried Beans, Salsa Picante and of course a bowl of Fruit. We sat and ate this delicious food. We enjoyed the afternoon as we got to see the sun set.
On December 4th, Adam, Aida, Nanny and Mercedes took Martha a Christmas Tree for her grave. Dade City Loses A Helpful Voice It Has Known In Spanish And EnglishPublished: Sep 13, 2006 DADE CITY - Martha Meza Alexander used her computer skills to build a family Web site where visitors could do everything from view the latest birthday photos to find out where to buy the tomato consomme used in family recipes. The site never grew stale. With Alexander in charge, the interactive family album stayed fresh all the time. Alexander, 43, died at home early Monday morning after struggling with cancer. Most Dade City residents recognized Alexander from Dade City City Hall. She started years ago as a clerk typist and worked for years as the city manager's executive secretary. She assumed many roles with the city and took on any job that needed doing, such as translating for Spanish-speaking residents who needed help opening an account or understanding a water bill. During the hurricanes of 2004, Alexander translated emergency announcements for area Spanish-speaking radio stations. Only months before she became ill, Alexander had been promoted to deputy city clerk, making her responsible for keeping the records and papers for the city commission. "She was one of those people you could depend on," said city Commissioner Scott Black, who attended high school with Alexander and some of her 13 siblings. As migrant farmworkers from Mexico, Alexander's parents shuttled the family between jobs in Florida and Michigan before finally settling in Dade City, Black said. The Meza family "made the American dream come true," said former city Commissioner William Dennis. Alexander applied herself in public schools, graduated from what is now Pasco High School and became a dedicated civil servant, Dennis said. It was a particularly proud moment for Alexander when her daughter, Angelica, recently joined the Army. Alexander also has a teenage son, Adam, still living at home. "Thankfully, he will have wonderful aunts and uncles who will make sure he is taken care of and a large extended family from city hall," said Laura Beagles, the city's administrative services director. Beagles, A Friend and Colleague On a warm September morning when the damp sweet fragrance of summer had not yet yielded to the cooler burnt smell of autumn. Heaven's tears fell gently on Dade City. Later that morning as a family, a community and a City prepared to say good-bye to a remarkable woman, the sun began to shine with a stunning glimmer to warm our hearts and assure us that the sadness felt today would give way to happier memories tomorrow. Martha Meza Alexander was a mother, a daughter, a sister, a colleague, a friend and a champion of worthy causes. As her family, colleagues and friends came together to honor her life, her light shone brightly, reminding each of us of her special place in our hearts. Her mother took pride in the many accomplishments of her daughter during her short 43 years. Her brothers and sisters remembered the strength she had given the family during the loss of the father and brothers. Martha's two sons and daughter took comfort that she was a wonderful Mother with an enthusiasm for life who taught them many values and ethics. A community honored the many contributions she had made and the positive affect she had on so many lives. Colleagues shared memories and stories of a public servant that truly cared and made the extra effort to assist everyone. The loss of Martha will be difficult for each of us. Her family will feel the loss of her love and strength, especially the children. Her sons and daughter will pass to their children the values taught to them by their loving Mother. Her brothers and sisters will share wonderful stories about Martha so her grandchildren will come to know their grandmother. Our community must remember her dedication to worthy organizations such as the Blue Angel Fund and the Children's Program of Sunrise of Pasco County and ensure that financial support continues. The employees of the City of Dade City will honor her dedication and loyalty to the City's citizens. Martha's friends will cherish private memories of a friend that never turned anyone away when they needed encouragement. Martha once told me "Life is a gift, and the most precious thing about life is to give your love to others" Martha's life was a gift to each of us and the love she so unselfishly gave brings comfort to those of us that will miss her. Thank you Martha for letting us share your life with you. Poem submitted by Kathy Jordan Chancey-Aurora's Friend This is a poem for my sister Patty Holton, I would like for you to have it for Martha. The Making Of A Sister What can I say, for a person who brightens my day. When no one can replace what is lost from this hollow space. My heart still stings for her now, even in grief my blood has a vow. My memory holds a vision so true of the beautiful sister that is you. Through life we laughed and played, you are my precious gem, always to be saved. Although you are gone away, I feel you near me every day, Your kind words of advice whispered in my ear. The celebrated holidays throughout each year. You are my sister and in you I will love, Even for eternity and when we meet above. Until then I will have joy through my sorrow, And keep memories of you today, and never wait to think of you tomorrow. GOD SAW
God saw you were getting
tired, Written by Ana Meza Calderon which she read at Martha's Memorial Service My sister Martha was one of the strongest people I have ever known. She was a hard worker and a great competitor. But most of all she was a loving and caring mother to her children and grandson. She loved to have fun with family and friends. And Boy! did she ever love those BUCS. You could hear her screaming whenever they were playing. That's exactly how she screamed too, when she was at Adam's football games. Whatever she would play, be it board games or volleyball games at Carrie and Jimmy's house, she would be the fiercest competition there. I guess that will be one of the things that I will remember her for the most. To me, that is the way that I will always think of her. I will not think of her the way her illness left her. For the short time that we lived together, I will always be grateful to God. I will remember her whenever I'm walking at night looking at the Stars, because now she is a shinning Star up in heaven looking down on us, her children and grandson. We love you Martha and we will miss you terribly. Our only comfort is that one day we will be reunited as it is written in the scriptures. Rosa Meza-Harris's Eulogy to Martha I want to start with an acrostic poem about Martha. Earlier today, I wasn't able to get through two lines without crying, but I'm going to try.
MARTHA MISS ME BUT LET ME GO Miss me but let me go, when I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little- but not too long and not with your head bowed low, Remember the love that we once shared, Miss me but let me go. For this is a journey that we must all take and each must go alone, It's all part of the Master's Plan, a step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart, go to the friends we know and bury your sorrows in doing good deeds, Miss me but let me go.........ANONYMOUS This was sent to our family by Ramiro Clemente. PRECIOUS LITTLE DIAMOND This is a special poem specifically for my precious little diamond, of whom I dearly hold in my heart True friend's are like diamond's, precious but rare. False friend's are like Autumn leaves found every-where. This is not good-by, we will see each other again, yes my heart is sadden because my friend Martha left her children, family and friend's that love her so much, but it is only the beginning of a new life for my beloved friend Martha.

Life here will pass away, so will we, this is not our home we are The Story of the Eight Dragonfly Sisters- written by Aida Meza Gamez
Aida designed these pieces of jewelry in Memory of Martha The Eight Dragonfly Sisters By: Aida Gamez This is the tale of the eight dragonfly sisters; Ana, Aurora, Gloria, Rosalinda, Martha, Aida, Tommie and Carrie. One warm and sunny spring day, the eight dragonfly sisters were out and about enjoying themselves and having fun in the sun. But Carrie, the youngest of the dragonfly sisters and the hungriest of them all, cried out “I’m hungry and starving and I must have something to eat”. So the oldest and wisest dragonfly, Ana, exclaimed “we’ll pair up in two and search for food” and off they went into the blue sky. Before they had a chance to find any spicy bugs, a fierce and ugly black crow was upon them. They were frightened and scared and they didn’t know where to fly and hide and what to do. Immediately, Aurora, the problem solver zoomed head-on straight with that black crow as she buzzed, “I’ll give that black crow a lesson he won’t soon forget.”, however, to Aurora’s disadvantage, he was much bigger and stronger than she was. After that Rosalinda, the smartest of the sisters, blurted out “I’ll outsmart that dumb old crow”. As Rosalinda zigzagged with symmetrical speed, she was unable to lead that crow away from her dragonfly sisters. Tommie, the fastest dragonfly sister buzzed really fast around that old black crow trying really hard to lead him away from her sisters, but her speed was not enough because he was much faster. Next Gloria, the prettiest dragonfly sisters declared "with my pretty wings and eyes that ugly crow will think twice about eating us", but she was very much wrong because he was just as hungry as they were. Aida the friendliest of all said maybe if we share our food with him he won’t eat us. But that crow did not want their food because the dragonfly sisters were sweeter and much more appetizing than spicy bugs. Finally Martha, the bravest of the dragonfly sisters found the courage to lead that old black crow away from her sisters. She lead him to where the scary gray wolf was always found resting. As she buzzed swiftly past the sleeping wolf, the crow did not notice the wolf and Martha found the courage to fly right into the open mouth of the wolf and out the other side without being heard or seen. The black crow found himself suddenly face to face with the wolf. He was not so lucky because he woke the hungry wolf and quickly became his lunch. Martha the bravest of the dragonfly sisters returned to her sisters and a big celebration was in order. The black crow never bothered the eight dragonfly sisters again. They lived happily ever after…. By: Aida Meza Gamez |
