The Beginnings: Jose and Jovita Meza

This website is for the large family of Jose and Jovita Meza to share our family's good times and get together's. Jose (RIP) and Jovita Meza who originally came from Mexico raised 14 children and were married for over 50 years. On this website we will have links to picture pages, news on upcoming family events, party invitations, family outings, anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Our family is big and this site will be a good place for everyone to stay in touch. This is our family website, please send us any news, upcoming parties, etc.

Jose Angel Meza (father) was born in Tamaulipas Mexico on Christmas Day in 1925, his parents Manuel Meza and Anita Alvarez Meza raised 6 sons in Tamaulipas. They are; Jose (our father), Herminio, Jesus, Aurelio, Antonio, and the late Benito Manuel Meza . They later went to live in Matamorros as young boys.

Jovita Castro (mother) was born on Mother's Day in 1931 in Doctor Arroyo, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She was raised in Monterrey. Her parents were Tomas and Perfecta Castro and they raised 3 daughters and 3 sons; Leonor, Paula, Leovardo, Francisco, the late Sara and a half brother Antonio Juarez.

THE MARRIAGE

Jose and Jovita met at a dance when grandpa Tomas and grandma Perfecta would come to the United States every six months and stay for three months when the beet, onion and other veggies were in season. After the three months mom and her family would return to Monterrey. Mom was around 15 years old when she met dad and she was his girlfriend for 2 or 3 years before they married in Harlingen TX in 1949. Mom was 18 and dad was 25.

After they were married they stayed to live in Texas at a farm just outside Santa Rosa. That's when they decided to have children and along came Ana Maria, Jose Manuel, Arturo and Aurora. They later moved to Florida where they lived in Homestead and later Ruskin and finally Dade City. This is when they continued to populate the earth and went on to have the rest of the kids, starting with Gregoria born in Homestead, Francisco born in MO, Rosalinda born in TX, Cesar Victor and Homero born in Tampa, Martha born in MI, Aida, Fidencio, and Tomasa born in Tampa and the baby Caridad born in Dade City. They also migrated up north to follow the vegetable crops in MO, MI, IN, OH, SC, NC, GA, AL and other states.
